Here are the day’s key developments:

  • More than 500,000 people have returned to Gaza City after a ceasefire was declared in the enclave, Gaza’s civil defence agency said.

  • Gaza health ministry said that 17,000 patients need to travel immediately outside the Gaza Strip for medical purposes. 

  • US special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said he visited Gaza “to verify Israel’s compliance with Phase I of the [Gaza ceasefire] agreement”.

  • Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump will chair an international summit on Gaza in Sharm el-Sheikh, attended by “leaders from more than 20 countries.”  

  • Hamas official Izzat al-Rishq said the group is working with “various friendly countries and parties” to ensure the entry of aid and relief into Gaza.

  • Head of the Palestinian NGO Network in Gaza said that an estimated 1.5 million residents of the enclave have lost their homes.

  • United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) said that it is ready to rehabilitate Gaza’s health, water, and education systems.
